Roman Pizza Perfection Voted Best in New York State

96-hour cold-fermented dough, ancient wheat, two-thirds fewer carbs, right on Madison Ave in Westwood.

About Us

The Washington Post named Mercato Roman Pizza Kitchen the best Roman pizza in New York State, and one bite of the crust tells you exactly why. The dough ferments for 96 hours, built from imported non-GMO ancient wheat blended with soy and rice flour and hydrated to 80%. That process produces a crust that is airy, deeply flavorful, and carries two-thirds fewer carbs and gluten than conventional pizza dough. This is not a shortcut or a marketing claim. It is a craft decision that takes four days to execute.

The same commitment runs through every dish. Housemade pasta is pressed through a bronze die using imported Italian semolina, which gives each strand a rough, sauce-gripping surface that factory-cut pasta simply cannot match. Guests who visited over a quiet Fourth of July weekend found themselves with Chef Anthony essentially to themselves, and reviewers keep coming back to the same phrase: quality you rarely find in the suburbs. Server Luis earned a specific callout for attentiveness and professionalism, which is the kind of detail that only appears in reviews when the front-of-house genuinely earns it.

At 11 Madison Ave in Westwood, NJ, Mercato holds a 4.4-star rating across 87 reviews, and the tone of those reviews is consistent: warm welcome, fresh ingredients, and food that delivers on the promise of the menu.

What We Offer

Mercato offers dine-in service seven days a week, noon through 9 PM Sunday through Thursday, and until 10 PM on Fridays and Saturdays. Reservations are accepted and recommended if you want a guaranteed table, especially on weekend evenings when the kitchen is at full pace.

Online ordering is available through mercatopizza.com, so you can bring that cold-fermented Roman crust home without the wait. The restaurant is also BYOB, meaning you can pair your meal with exactly the wine or craft beer you already love, without a markup. For groups and special occasions, Mercato accommodates private events, giving you the kitchen's full attention for gatherings that deserve something more than a banquet hall.

Whether you are discovering Roman-style pizza for the first time or you have been chasing a proper bronze-die pasta since your last trip to Rome, Mercato is built to meet you there.

"Super quiet over 4th of July weekend. We had Chef Anthony all to ourselves and he did not disappoint. Immediately recognized Chef Anthony from another restaurant he worked at. The staff were very accommodating and helpful. You could taste and see how fresh all the ingredients used were. Ended lunch with grapefruit sorbetta that was super refreshing. Will definitely be back to try other dishes. Was told they will start brunch service soon. All the best to you Anthony I hope you have found your happy place."

"Woah! Awesome experience at Mercato. We had meatballs and pizza, and I can say, some of the best quality I have had in the suburbs in a while. Our server Luis was attentive and such a professional. I can’t wait to come back, but will probably order delivery from here until then. Highly recommend."

"Outstanding pizza, pasta, bring your own, & non alcoholic concoctions in a warm lively environment! The bolognese is delicious-if you don’t like it, leave the attorney’s out of it & send me an invoice. Perhaps best restaurant in Westwood! Great for a holiday soirée. Enjoy…"
